Create a Lightning Action to Launch a Taskfeed Board

Configure an object-specific quick action to create a new Taskfeed Board with a series of predefined values.

Step 1: Configure an Object-Specific Quick Action to create a new Taskfeed Board

  1. From the management settings for the object for which you want to create an action, go to Buttons, Links, and Actions.

  2. Click New Action.

  3. Choose Create new Record

  4. Select Taskfeed Board for the type of object you want to create.

  5. Leave the Standard Label Type as None to customize the Label.

    1. If you select one of the available Standard Label Types, the naming convention will default to “Taskfeed Board”

    2. The API name will pre-populate.

  6. Optionally, enter a Description, a Success Message and whether you want a feed item to be created when the action is completed.

  7. Click Save.

Step 2: Customize the Action Layout

  1. Click Edit Layout to select which fields to display on the action.

2. Drag and drop relevant fields. Keep it simple, and under 8 fields if possible.

    In the next step, you can set predefined field values for some of those fields.

    3. Click Save.

Step 3: Set predefined field values

  1. In the Predefined Field Values section, click New.

  2. Select a field.

  3. Use the formula editor to enter the formula that defines the value of the field

    1. For picklist fields, you can select one of the picklist options as a predefined value. Users may still select a different one when creating a new Board, but a value will be pre populated.

    2. Lookup fields with a predefined value will not be editable from the action, but you may edit later, once the Board is created.

  4. Click Save and optionally, create additional predefined field values.

Step 4: Add the Action to the Page Layout

  1. From the management settings for the object for which you want to create an action, go to Page Layouts and select the page layout for the object.

  2. In the page layout editor palette, select Mobile & Lightning Actions.

  3. Drag and drop the Action you created from the palette onto the Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions section of the page layout.

  4. Click Save.
